The Olympic Council of Asia has included e-sports in the program of the Asian Games of 2022, which will be held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. This is reported by the BBC.
Asian Games are a sporting event that takes place every four years. Games are organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee. As a rule, the program of the Asian Games includes traditional sports, but now the organizers decided to include in the program and e-sports.
In addition to the Asian Games of 2022, e-sports will also be represented in the Asian Games of 2018 in Jakarta, but in Indonesia these will be demonstration competitions not included in the official program. Also, cybersporters will participate in the Asian Games of martial arts and indoor contests in 2017 - the program expects matches in the football simulator FIFA 2017, games of the genre MOBA, as well as competitions in high-speed games.
In Russia, e-sports was a part of the All-Russian Register of Sports in 2001-2006, but in July 2006 it was excluded from it, as it was not developed in more than half of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and did not have an all-Russian sports and sports association registered in the established manner. Ten years later, in 2016, the Russian Ministry of Sport issued an order according to which e-sports returned to the All-Russian Register of Sports - thus, from June 18, 2016, e-sports in Russia became an officially recognized discipline.
