The miniature camera can be used in insect drones size, carried by such surveillance and monitoring. With these cameras, you can see all the details without losing sight of what is happening on the edges.
The spot in front of our eyes called the fovea centralis scored high concentration of light-sensitive cells, especially compared with neighboring areas. That is why we clearly see in the center, whereas the edges of the world seems slightly blurred. Harald Giessen at the University of Stuttgart reproduced similar vision with the help of three-dimensional printing created four plastic lenses with different focal lengths, assembled in a single visual sensor, popmech.ru reports. Lenses with longer focal length to capture sharp detail narrow field of view, while the lens with a short focal length are responsible for blurry vision in the periphery.
Program stitches together the images with each lens, and thus creates an image, similar to what we see. The entire system is less than 300 square microns - the width of about three human hair, laid out side by side. No three-dimensional printing such a small camera would be impossible to create. The result drones, which have an outstanding vision, which greatly enhances their use in surveillance and monitoring.
