As part of the strategy’s implementation, the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education has been strengthening national cybersecurity infrastructure. At the same time, the capabilities of the AzScienceCERT service operating under the AzScienceNet Network Operation Center continue to expand, alongside deeper integration into international cooperation frameworks.
A significant achievement in this direction is the successful reaccreditation of the AzScienceCERT by the TF-CSIRT Trusted Introducer association. This recognition highlights Azerbaijan’s growing credibility and active participation in the global cybersecurity ecosystem.
Founded in 2000 by leading European cybersecurity groups, TF-CSIRT Trusted Introducer aims to enhance international collaboration in responding to computer security incidents and to facilitate оператив information exchange across countries.
AzScienceCERT, established in 2010 as Azerbaijan’s first CERT structure, focuses on responding to cybersecurity incidents within the national science and education network. Its development has been significantly supported by the inclusion of the AzScienceNet in the GEANT Association in 2015. This membership strengthened both institutional capacity and technological capabilities.
Today, AzScienceCERT actively collaborates with international CERT organizations, contributing to global cybersecurity initiatives and facilitating knowledge exchange. Its primary mission is to manage information security risks, safeguard critical infrastructure, and ensure the stable operation of the AzScienceNet network.
The service also plays a vital role in supporting thousands of users, including scientists, educators, students, and researchers across universities and research institutions. Additionally, AzScienceCERT serves as an important platform for training cybersecurity professionals and advancing scientific research in information security.
Having first achieved international accreditation on May 30, 2011, AzScienceCERT has since maintained a trajectory of continuous improvement through regular assessments. The latest certification not only reflects sustained cooperation with the TF-CSIRT community but also underscores Azerbaijan’s contribution to strengthening trust, professional partnerships, and the resilience of the global digital environment.
