Cybersecurity culture must be built in society 2026-03-04 10:00:00 / CONFERENCES

As children's internet usage increases, the issue of protecting them from cybercrime and cyber fraud becomes more urgent. The involvement of children in harmful groups, their alienation from education, and their access to content that contradicts national and spiritual values or is inappropriate for their age seriously damages their normal development. In this regard, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed an order on February 27, "On measures related to the protection of children from harmful content and influences in the digital environment."

Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and General Director of the Institute of Information Technology at the Ministry of Science and Education, spoke about this in a statement to AZERTAC. The academician noted that the document identifies specific directions to ensure children's efficient and safe use of social networks. The filtering of harmful content—in text, video, and audio formats—as well as the development of national intellectual programs with the support of AI technologies, plays a crucial role in this field.

The academician emphasized that one of the main directions of the institute's activity is cybersecurity. Special attention is paid to protecting children in the online environment, as numerous cyber risks exist that can harm their health, psychology, and normal development. It is essential to conduct a systematic fight against these risks.

Internet addiction, spending time online day and night, alienation from education, and communication with harmful groups negatively affect children's health, psychology, and normal development. In some cases, children are subjected to psychological pressure, and even instances of suicide attempts are encountered. State bodies, technology companies, schools, teachers, and parents bear great responsibility in protecting children. Comprehensive measures must be implemented in this area, extensive awareness work must be carried out, and a culture of cybersecurity must be formed in society," the scientist stated.
