Academician Rasim Alguliyev participated in the GEANT General Assembly meeting 2025-12-08 10:00:00 / CONFERENCES

Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, participated in the 37th  meeting of GÉANT's General Assembly  held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

During the General Assembly, updates were presented on the activities of the GÉANT Association, and discussions were held on the strategic importance of the GN5-2 project for the development of Europe’s research and education networking infrastructure. Participants also defined GÉANT’s strategic development priorities for 2026–2030 and reviewed prospects for cooperation among national research and education networks (NRENs). Within the framework of the event, views were exchanged on strengthening collaboration with other GÉANT member countries. Academician Rasim Alguliyev engaged in discussions with representatives of relevant institutions from these countries on the organization of scientific activities and the exploration of future cooperation opportunities.

The Vice-President of the ANAS also attended the CTO workshops 2025. At the event, representatives of GÉANT, including national research and education networks, exchanged views on strengthening network infrastructure, ongoing projects, upcoming tasks, challenges, and emerging opportunities.

The workshops also addressed topics such as the European Commission’s increased focus on regional cyber sovereignty, the expanding role of GÉANT within Europe’s research ecosystem, GÉANT’s strategic roadmap, ensuring that national research and education network infrastructures comply with Europe’s digital sovereignty requirements, and support for open science. A number of proposals were put forward to further advance these areas.

As part of the event, bilateral meetings were held with representatives of national research and education networks from several countries. Discussions with representatives of Turkey’s ULAKBİM and Italy’s GARR NRENs focused on the development of network infrastructure, national cybersecurity and cyber sovereignty, opportunities for joint participation in regional projects, and prospects for cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
