The situation of scientific journals was discussed at ANAS 2021-04-04 09:47:00 / CONFERENCES

As reported, on April 2, 2021, the next online meeting of the General Meeting of the Department of Physical, Mathematical and Technical Sciences (FRTEB) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) was held.

Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, corresponding member of ANAS Misir Mardanov reported on the state of scientific journals at ANAS.

He noted that global events, natural disasters, food shortages and other serious global problems can be solved only with the development of science. The scientific development of each country, its state policy in the field of science and scientific personnel, the level of training of specialists, the scientific weight of its achievements as a result of research have a direct impact on its reputation among the international scientific community.

The scientist noted that in a globalizing world, as the weight and priority of information increases, so does the demand for articles, patents and inventions published in scientific journals.

Today, the development and publication of authoritative, high-impact magazines in every country of the world remains relevant. In 2020, more than 12,000 journals were included in the Web of Science database and 30,891 in the Scopus database. It should be noted that every year these international databases are updated, new magazines are added, and some are published.

Mardanov stressed that 8 of the scientific journals published in the Republic of Azerbaijan are included in the Web of Science database. Two of them are "Azerbaijan Journal of Mathematics" and "Proceedings of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics" of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS. Our country is also represented by eight scientific journals on the basis of Scopus.

He said that the preliminary results of the research show that we have achieved serious success. Thus, 6 journals published in the scientific institutions of ANAS for only a few years were included in international databases.

Then the scientist spoke about the problems facing the scientific journals published at ANAS, made proposals in this direction to improve the quality, to create a website for each of the scientific journals, to improve the editorial staff.

Vice-president of ANAS, head of the Department of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences, academician Rasim Alguliyev emphasized that the complex reforms carried out in our country under the direct leadership and initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev recently puts important tasks.

Academicians Ali Abbasov, Fikret Aliyev, Arif Hashimov, Adil Garibov, corresponding members of ANAS Vagif Ibrahimov, Ramiz Aliguliyev, Vali Huseynov, Oktay Gasimov spoke at the discussions around the report. They put forward important proposals to adapt the articles published in scientific journals to the challenges of modern world science and to overcome the many challenges they face.

After the discussions, the General Meeting of the FRTEB held a seminar on the current state of scientific journals published in the scientific institutions of the Department, the solution of problems, in general, the introduction of the achievements of Azerbaijani science to the world, the implementation of the tasks facing our science. Science ”and decided to establish a relevant working group to prepare opinions and proposals to provide access to the Scopus database and submit them to the Presidium of ANAS.
