In Nanjing, a DNA sequencing database of 80 million people will be created. The project will allow using big data for fighting the most common diseases.
The value of the project will be its scale. The regional Health and Planned Parenthood Committee says that the database of the State Center for Large Data on Health and Medicine will contain information on 80 million people, that is, the population of Jiangsu Province, in which Nanjing is located.
Large data from the database is planned to be used to study genetic mutations that are relevant to the most common diseases, popmech.ru reports.
DNA sequencing in the framework of the project will be handled by the Yangzi Group, Southeast and Nanjing Medical Universities. And the database itself will be created within a few years.
