More and more people are trying to combine robotics and art. Not so long ago, we told you about the robot conductor, who performed on the same stage with the symphony orchestra and the legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli, now we will talk about the music collective of industrial robots, who recently recorded his first music album. This group is called Automatica, and it was created by New Zealand musician Nigel Stanford.
Nigel was always open to experiments and was very fond of different techniques. In his studio, the musician often conducted experiments with sound waves and various speakers, creating magnificent visualizations for his compositions and uploading them to YouTube. But when he got into the hands of three industrial robots from the German company Kuka Roboter, his attitude to creativity changed overnight. The main goal of the musician was the creation of music with the help of his new metal friends.
To teach industrial robots playing the musical instruments was not so simple. After all, they used to be used for assembling cars and welding works. But, armed with the right software and having learned to program, the musician managed to adapt them to his needs. In this he was helped by software packages Robot Animator and Maya 3D. Robots eventually learned to play on five different instruments, including pianoforte, drums, bass guitar, synthesizer and DJ turntables. The most difficult to master, from the words of a musician, became a guitar and a vinyl turntable.
We bring to your attention the debut music video in which the Automatica group led by its leader presents you the first fruits of its many months of work.
