AzScienceNet is a vital means in integration process of science and education 2017-03-10 14:21:16 / CONFERENCES

Institute of Information Technology has held a meeting with Deputy of AR Ministry of Education Farhad Amirbayov.

 

The meeting aimed to get familiar with the institute’s activity and discuss collaborative perspectives.

 

Meeting was attended by Academician-Secretary of ANAS and director of the Institute of Information Technology, academic Rasim Alguliyev, Deputy Director for Technology, PhD, Associate professor Rashid Alakbarov, Deputy Director of the institute for General Affairs Shakir Mehdiyev, scientific secretary Madina Saidova, head of the Education Department, PhD, Associate Professor Farhad Yusifov, head of the Department of International Relations, PhD Vugar Musayev, head of the Center for Educational Innovation Rasmiyya Mahmudova and associates of AzScienceNet-computer network.

 

In advance, Academic Rasim Alguliyev acted and stated that, one of the vital directions of latest reforms in ANAS is organizing integration of science and education. Establishing master studies in ANAS is one of the vital achievements in this field, also students studying in SABAH groups are probated in scientific institutions of ANAS, he said.

 

Academician-Secretary of ANAS noted that one of the main challenges for integration of science and education is to improve the quality of scientific research, ensure the development of high-skilled personnel.

 

Scientist drew attention to the future collaboration of two responsible organizations in the country on science – Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education.

 

AzScienceNet is an important means of science and education integration. According to scientist, ANAS and Ministry of Education has set up business cooperation in this field. Besides research institutes of ANAS, educational ventures of the country also can benefit services of AzScienceNet and Data Center.

 

In 2015, by support of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communication and High Technologies AzScienceNet has accepted as a national operator to the membership of GEANT (European Science and Education Networks Association), which enables opportunity to integrate Azerbaijan science and education to the European science and education scope.

 

R.Alguliyev also noted that, participation of AzScienceNet to the “EapConnect” project implemented by GEANT network for creating science and education network in the Eastern Europe and Southern Caucasus makes chance to facilitate global study and educational collaboration of domestic scientist, student and researchers.

 

Then, the institute's Deputy Director for Technology, PhD, Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov made a presentation on "AzScienceNet-computer network infrastructure and services", providing information about services, international relations etc.

 

According to him, composed of Internet services centers, network security and AzScienceCERT network operating centers – AzScienceNet provides Cloud Computing, Cloud Storage, Virtual lab, hosting, Eduroam, IP Telephony services to the employees of scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, e-libraries, distance education and etc.

 

Deputy Director brought to mind organizing works of “Hot line” service on ElmTV broadcasting and AzScienceNet.

 

Scientist presented dynamics of development of AzScienceNet speed’s Internet access over the years, access speed is - 1.41 Gbit / s, computing power - 17 Tflops, external memory capacity is equal to 400 Tbyte.

 

Noting that 41 institutions and organizations connected to AzScienceNet through the fiber-optic line, R.Alakbarov said that along with the institutions and organizations of ANAS, Cloud Computing service network is also available for individual users of universities and other scientific institutions of the country.

 

The Deputy Director also informed about the distributed multi-terminal information service network AzScienceNet, video conferencing and VoIP services, as well as the organizational work of the "Hot Line" for broadcast and ElmTV AzScienceNet network.

 

Next Amirbeyov acquainted with the services and products, as well as Intertet cafe offered publishing "Information technology" operating at DATA-center, Training and Innovation Center, the Center for e-libraries Multimedia Center. He was informed about the institution and the Internet television set in the lobby of "InfoTV".

 

Then the guests  was provided with detailed information about the activity of Distance Learning Center. During a live broadcast to the Ganja branch, R.Alguliyev reported that a number of regional research and educational institutions presented videoconferencing services and remote services.

 

It was noted that, as a bridge between the leading research institutions of both our country and the world, the Center creates ample conditions for distance education doctoral students and candidates, conduct online seminars and conferences, associations of scientists coming to Baku, to strengthen international cooperation between scientists. R.Alguliyev expressed confidence that the Distance Learning Center will contribute to the formation of the country's unified scientific and educational environment.

 

Praising by the Institute of innovative conditions and achieved scientific results, Advisor to the Minister of Education Amirbeyov expressed confidence that the development of cooperation ties play an important role in a more efficient organization of both structures.

 

Finally, between the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS and the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan, the sides exchanged views on development of cooperation relations, the progress made in the integration of science and education, the transfer of scientific innovation in education. It was noted that the establishment of relations of cooperation between the educational network AzEduNet, provider of Internet-service research centers, and NCC AzScienceNet ANAS will create great opportunities for both organizations.
