One of the most widely debated issues in the world today is artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the labor market. The rapid development of technology is influencing all areas of our lives, creating new opportunities while also presenting certain risks. Azerbaijan is also part of this global process. A digitalization policy is being actively implemented in the country, and numerous projects in the fields of innovation and technology are being carried out.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and General Director of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, spoke about this in a statement to the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC).
According to the academician, AI is already influencing the labor market, primarily affecting repetitive and standardized jobs. For instance, cashier services, data processing, and simple office tasks are increasingly being performed by AI-based systems. In the future, this process may also extend to professions that require higher levels of qualification.
“The digital labor market differs significantly from the traditional one: people can now work on a global scale, new professions are emerging, and some existing occupations are gradually losing their relevance. One of the key issues for Azerbaijan is digital security and cybersecurity. The implementation of innovations and the integration of advanced technologies into society occupy an important place in state policy. The education system is also at the center of this transformation. Digital skills, artificial intelligence knowledge, and innovative thinking must be developed in both secondary and higher education institutions, which in turn increases the country’s competitiveness. Language technologies are creating new opportunities as well. AI-powered language systems help reduce language barriers in the labor market. For example, speech in Azerbaijani can be automatically translated into other languages, while responses can be translated back into Azerbaijani. This makes both education and employment opportunities more inclusive. Currently, a new form of collaboration is emerging in society between humans and AI. Artificial intelligence enables individuals to acquire knowledge more efficiently, express themselves more effectively, and develop their potential. As a result, AI and advanced technologies are fundamentally transforming both the labor market and society as a whole. The key challenge is to manage these processes effectively, rely on scientific foundations, and prioritize the development of human potential,” the scientist noted.
