A delegation led by Vice-President of ANAS and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MSERA), Academician Rasim Alguliyev, visited the premises of the GÉANT Association in Cambridge, United Kingdom, within the framework of the TNC25 international conference.
The delegation also included Corresponding Member of ANAS and Head of Department at the Institute, Dr. Ramiz Alguliyev, head of the AzScienceNet Network Operations Center, Mr. Babak Nabiyev and the Institute’s Chief Specialist Konul Aliyeva.
The primary objective of the visit was to gain deeper insight into the GÉANT Association’s technical infrastructure, management model, and innovative services, as well as to discuss opportunities for enhanced mutual cooperation.
During the meeting, Academician Rasim Alguliyev held discussions with Irina Matthews, Project Manager of the EU-funded EaPConnect project, focusing on accelerating the integration of Azerbaijan’s science and education network into the broader European research and academic ecosystem. The parties also emphasized the importance of continuing strategic collaboration between GÉANT and AzScienceNet.
As part of the visit, the delegation was introduced to the operational frameworks of GÉANT’s Data Center and Network Management Center. They received comprehensive information on the technological platforms that underpin the network’s high reliability, resilience, and cybersecurity standards. In addition, there was an exchange of views on best practices related to big data analytics, the deployment of artificial intelligence, and advanced network management systems. The sides noted that the outcomes of the meeting hold strategic importance for the implementation of future joint projects with GÉANT, participation in the Horizon Europe program, and the active engagement of Azerbaijani researchers in GÉANT’s Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence.
