The closing ceremony of the trainings dedicated to supporting eduROAM services, within the framework of the EaPConnect (Eastern Partnership Connect) project of GEANT (European Association of Science and Education Networks), which unites the Eastern Partnership countries, was held at the Institute of Information Technology.
The trainings were attended by system/network specialists and IT specialists of the AzScienceNet Network Operation Center, as well as officials from relevant departments of ADA University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Karabakh University, Nakhchivan State University,Azerbaijan Technical University and the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vice-President of ANAS, Director General of the Institute, Academician Rasim Alguliyev provided detailed information about the Institute's areas of activity and the innovative projects implemented here.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted that in recent years, the Institute of Information Technology has been closely involved in the implementation of tasks arising from important state documents of great importance, such as the “Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Information Security and Cybersecurity for 2023–2027”, “Digital Development Concept in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, as well as the “Strategy of Artificial Intelligence of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028”, and that research has been conducted on multidisciplinary problems related to modern ICT problems. The scientist also emphasized that in the last 5 years, the names of scientists from the Institute of Information Technology have been included in the most prestigious rating list of Stanford University.
The scientist spoke about the successful activities of the AzScienceNet Network Operation Center, noting that AzScienceNet plays the role of a virtual bridge in ensuring the integration of Azerbaijani science and education into the European environment and fulfills the function of a national operator.
The Vice President of ANAS noted that the eduROAM service, one of the services provided within the framework of the EaPConnect project, provides AzScienceNet users with the opportunity to connect to the global Internet network from anywhere in the world, and that about 50 scientific institutions and more than 20 higher education institutions in Azerbaijan benefit from these services. Academician R.Aliguliyev noted the importance of the trainings held to promote the wider spread of the eduROAM service in our country and improve the application of these services in scientific and educational institutions, and wished the participants success.
Then, the trainers – Zenon Mousmoulas and Halil Adem, from the Greek GRNET (Greek Research and Technology Network) network, made speeches and shared their impressions. The trainers highly appreciated the material and technical conditions established at the institute, thanked the institute’s management for the warm welcome and the high-level organization of the visit.
At the end, certificates were presented to the participants who successfully completed the trainings.
