Head of the AzScienceNet Network Operation Center of the IIT, Babak Nabiyev took part at the 34th meeting of the General Assembly of the GEANT Association, which took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on November 20-21, 2024. The meeting was attended by official representatives from Research and Education networks of Europe, as well as the Eastern Partnership countries.
At the meeting of General Assembly representatives from GÉANT's member organizations discussed strategic priorities, projects, and updates related to research and education networking across Europe. The assembly also served as a platform for electing board members and updating participants on GÉANT’s activities and collaborations. The meeting emphasized topics like innovation in network technologies, and fostering collaboration among National Research and Education Networks (NRENs).
B. Nabiyev also participated in the Special Interest Group for Research Engagement Development (SIG-RED) meeting. Prior to the meeting, the participants got acquainted with KM3NeT Assembly Area and Nikhef (National Institute for Subatomic Phsics). At the meeting of SIG-RED diverse approaches to research engagement are explored, case studies are shared, and challenges specific to regional and national research and education networks (NRENs) are discussed. Also discussions on emerging topics in research support, including data sharing, collaboration tools, and connectivity issues were held.
The Network and Network Technologies Workshop (CTO workshop) held on 21-22 November 2024 focused on providing hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge about networking concepts, tools, and technologies. The workshop presented the latest developments in the services provided by GEANT (eduroam, eduGAIN, InAcademia) and collaborations in this area. The roundtable discussions that followed discussed current issues, future perspectives and current plans.
