World's first electrified road for charging vehicles opens in Sweden 2018-04-18 12:00:00 / TECHNOLOGİCAL İNNOVATİONS

In Sweden, the world's first road has been built, capable of charging electric cars moving along it, news agencies reported. Currently, an innovative technology is equipped with a small section of the route leading to the Stockholm-Arlanda airport. A fragment of a 2 km long roadway is equipped with special rails carrying an electric current. They allow replenishing the energy charge in the electric motor through a special contact attached to the connector on the bottom of the vehicle. Approaching such a section of the road, the motorist can connect the cable to the car and "refuel" on the fly. When the car leaves the specified length of the route, the cable will instantly disconnect.

Experts say that thanks to this know-how, the popularity of electromobiles in Sweden will increase significantly. The project managers say that by electrifying only 5% of the Swedish highways, it will be possible to create comfortable conditions for using electric transport.

The cost of building one kilometer of such a route is 1 million euros, which, according to the estimates of designers, is 50 times cheaper than laying a section of a tram line of similar length.

By 2030 Sweden intends to completely abandon the use of hydrocarbon fuel.
