In addition to the Monument des Fraternisations in France, virtual reality kiosks have been put into use as part of the Timescope project. The project envisages the creation of virtual reality zones near the sites of real historical significance so that tourists can visually go to different periods.
At present 15 kiosks are available in France. Their speed of preparation depends not on technologies or investments but on the work of artists and designers. They create real-scale models of historical locations and events based on archive photos, maps and illustrations.
Users of the virtual reality kiosk can browse virtual spaces on analogues of the surrounding landscape with the help of stationary binoculars. Kiosks are protected from bad weather conditions. It should be noted that, along with the excursion to the past, the authors of the project also make virtual trips to the future.
Timescope technology will be fully appreciated at the beginning of next year at the International Electronics Exhibition CES 2018, which will be held in Las Vegas. At least 100 such kiosks are expected to be commissioned near the well-known tourist facilities by the end of 2018.
