American scientists have created special labels that will help determine the suitability of food or cosmetics. Experts described their invention during the annual National Congress and Exhibition of the American Chemical Society, which was held yesterday in Washington, writes Gazeta.Ru.
It is reported that the stickers are made of paper, which is processed by a special indicator substance - inorganic particles. Interacting with potentially dangerous chemical compounds, they change their color.
The inventor Silvana Andreescu said that her stickers can be used for different purposes, including the identification of dangerous bacteria in food. In addition, they are indispensable in determining the composition of antioxidants. This procedure will help to find out in which region produced such drinks as wine or tea.
During the test of stickers, scientists were able to identify with their help the presence of toxic substance ochrototoxin A, which is produced by mold fungi and is often found in cereals and coffee. The team of scientists hopes that soon they will succeed with the help of miracle stickers to reveal the E. coli, salmonella and other dangerous microorganisms.
Earlier it was reported that specialists created a collapsible paper battery, which works at the expense of special bacteria. The invention can be used in biosensors to monitor glucose levels in diabetics and other medical devices that consume little energy.
