Germany plans to establish government agency for developing cyber weapons 2018-08-13 11:00:00 / INTERESTING INFORMATION

The German Federal government plans to establish a state agency for the development of cyber weapons at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior. This was reported by Deutsche Welle, citing German media.

The Bundestag plans to approve the establishment of "the agency on innovations in cyber security" at its meeting on Wednesday, August 15. The new agency should provide the Bundeswehr and security services with the necessary means to protect against cyber-attacks.

Government agencies will no longer need to purchase products for threat analysis and defense against the cyber-attacks now that the new agency will develop the tools for it.

As noted in the proposal of the German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Minister of Interior Horst Seehofer, the agency "will decisively contribute to the security of Germany’s future.”

Germany patterned its agency after its US and Israeli counterparts. The Ministry of Defense plans to allocate about 50 million euro annually for research and technological developments in the cyber sector in 2019 and 2020.
