CANN warned about possible interruptions to the Internet in October 2018-09-11 11:41:00 / INTERESTING INFORMATION

On October 11, Internet users around the world may face the problem of accessing the Network, according to the Corporation for the Management of Domain Names and IP-addresses (ICANN).

On this day, the first in history change of cryptographic keys is planned, which protect the system of domain names. There is a risk that some users within 48 hours after the upgrade can experience difficulties when opening individual resources. The system can output a "server failure" or SERVFAIL error.

Cryptographic keys appeared in 2010. They are used in the DNSSEC extension system and are responsible for the security and integrity of Internet addressing. Change of keys should take place every five years, but in 2015 it was postponed due to the unpreparedness of providers.
